Qualifications/Reporting:

Required minimum education: Master's degree in nursing, healthcare administration or related field is required.

Required minimum experience: Three to five years recent experience in Chief Nursing Officer management role in a healthcare at the departmental level or higher; preferably at the executive nursing level.

Required skills (if applicable): Possesses thorough knowledge of nursing theory and practice and of learning principles. Effective oral and written communication skills. Must be detail oriented with strong follow-through skills, human resource skills, and financial skills. Strong interpersonal skills and problem solving ability are essential.

Must complete training in use and application of those modules of the Meditech system which relate to supervised departments.

Required license/certification: Currently licensed as a registered Nurse by the State of Texas. Current CPR required.

 

Job Summary: Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the provision of Patient Services of the departments of the Medical/Surgical Unit, Women's Services, Resource Pool, ICU, ER, Cardiopulmonary Services, Case Management, Social Services, Infection control, Employee Health and Education. Supervises personnel in these departments and all department functions including: developing and maintaining departmental objectives, standards of care, requirements of applicable regulatory bodies, policies and procedures and professional development activities.

The Nurse Executive has full responsibility for the provision of administrative direction and control of the assigned hospital departments and patient services. He/she provides authority and accountability for the nurse executive functions and serves as primary clinical resource within hospital administration. The Chief Nursing Executive is responsible for the operation of the services including the types and numbers of nursing personnel and staff necessary to provide nursing care for all areas.

He/she is appointed collaboratively by the hospital CEO. He/she participates with leaders from the governing body, management, medical staff and clinical areas in the hospital's decision-making structures and processes. He/she coordinates and carries out assigned projects to effectively support the hospital's immediate and long-range objectives. He/she reports directly to the hospital CEO, and under his/her general supervision, shares the responsibility for administration of the day-to-day operation of the hospital. This position strives jointly with that of the CEO and the Hospital Management Committee members to carry out the philosophy and general objectives of the hospital. As such, the position must assume that the hospital's stated mission and philosophy are appropriately reflected and demonstrated in all assigned functions and relationships. Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates provision of services by the Case Management, Social Services, Infection Control, Employee Health, Education and Trauma Services Departments.
